About

About us:

Department of History launched its teaching programme with 35 students in 1994. Our first students graduated in 1998. Since 1994, our department uninterruptedly continued its activities in teaching and research together with six programmes which are classified according to the periodization and subject of history, as ancient, medieval, early modern, modern age, Turkish Republic History and General Turkish History. Our department aims to gain its students a comprehensive understanding of history regarding the Turkish-speaking geographies and European countries, with basic compulsory courses supported by a wide range of elective courses. Our department also started to admit students in an evening school with the same teaching programme.

After successfully completing 140 credits by attending the compulsory and elective courses in four years, students are allowed to graduate from our department and receive bachelor’s degree where they are granted with the title “historian”. In regard to employment, our bachelors can serve in public and private schools, as well as various public offices as historian. A substantial number of our graduates also chose the path of academic career at Turkish universities.

In terms of ranking in the field of department of histories, since Çanakkale is located in a very historical landscape and the diligent efforts of our academic staff for teaching and academic research, our department has become quite popular among young students in recent years and therefore welcome more than 100 students from the metropole cities of Turkey such as Istanbul, Ankara and İzmir every year.
